StageOwn ("we," "us," or "StageOwn") is a fan and patron data platform for independent artists and live music venues. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and your rights regarding your data. By using stageown.com or opting in through a StageOwn QR code, you acknowledge the practices described in this policy.
This policy applies to three groups: Artists and Venues (our paying customers who create accounts), Fans and Patrons (individuals who opt in at shows or venues via a StageOwn QR code), and Website Visitors (anyone browsing stageown.com).
For fan and patron data collected through an artist's or venue's QR code, the artist or venue is the data controller — they decide why the data is collected and how it is used, and they are responsible for their communications with you and for honoring your requests about their list. StageOwn is the data processor: we store and process that data on the controller's behalf and at their direction, and we do not use it for our own purposes.
For account-holder data (artist and venue accounts) and website visitor data, StageOwn is the controller.
If you are a fan or patron with a question or request about a specific artist's or venue's list, the fastest path is to contact them directly or use the unsubscribe link in their messages. You can also always email contact@stageown.com and we will route your request to the right controller.
From Artists & Venues (account holders): Name, email address, password (stored as a bcrypt hash — never in plain text), role (artist or venue), venue name and location (if applicable), optional CC/team email, and notification preferences.
From Fans & Patrons (via QR opt-in):Full name (required), email address (required), phone number (optional), city (optional), zip code (optional), show or venue attended, merchandise order details, favorite song selection, travel distance range, and poll/set-list answers. This data is collected on behalf of the artist or venue — you are opting in to their list, not to StageOwn's.
Automatically collected: Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, timestamps) when you interact with our website or API. We do not use tracking pixels, behavioral advertising, or cross-site tracking.
We use collected information to:
We do not sell your personal data, rent it to third parties, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or use fan/patron information for our own marketing purposes.
Fan and patron data collected through a StageOwn QR code belongs to the artist or venue that deployed it. Artists and venues can export their complete fan/patron list at any time and take it with them — there is no lock-in, and your data is yours permanently. Because exported data leaves our systems, artists and venues are solely responsible for safeguarding any copies they download.
We use the following third-party services to operate StageOwn:
Each provider processes data only as needed to provide its service to us and operates under its own security and data processing commitments. We do not share your data with any other third parties except: with your explicit consent; to comply with a valid legal obligation, subpoena, or court order; to protect the rights, safety, or property of StageOwn or others; or in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (in which case this policy continues to apply to your data).
Fans and patrons who opt in via QR code may receive communications from the artist or venue they joined. Every message includes an unsubscribe link. You can also email contact@stageown.com to request removal from any list, and we will process your request within 10 business days.
Artists and venues can manage their notification preferences (first opt-in alerts, milestone emails, morning reports) in their dashboard Settings page.
We implement commercially reasonable administrative and technical safeguards designed to protect the data we process, including:
That said, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we work to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security, and you provide data to the Service with this understanding. Account holders are responsible for keeping their own credentials secure and for protecting any data they export from the platform.
If we become aware of a security incident involving unauthorized access to personal data, we will: (a) investigate and take reasonable steps to contain and remediate it; (b) notify affected account holders (the data controllers) without undue delay after confirming the incident, with a description of what happened, the categories of data involved, and the steps we are taking; and (c) cooperate reasonably with controllers so they can meet their own legal notification obligations to fans, patrons, and regulators.
Because artists and venues are the controllers of their fan/patron lists, any legally required notifications to individual fans or patrons are the responsibility of the artist or venue whose list was affected. Where StageOwn is itself the controller (account holder and website visitor data), we will make any notifications required by applicable law directly.
Account data is retained for as long as you maintain an active StageOwn account. Fan and patron records are retained on behalf of the artist or venue until they delete them or close their account. If you close your account, your data will be deleted within 90 days unless export has been requested or we are required to retain it to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our agreements.
Depending on your jurisdiction (including under the GDPR and the California Consumer Privacy Act), you may have the right to access, correct, port, restrict the processing of, or delete your personal data, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@stageown.com with the subject line "Data Request." We will verify your identity and respond within 30 days. For fan/patron data, we may forward the request to (or coordinate with) the artist or venue that controls the list.
We do not sell personal information, so there is no need to opt out of sale. California residents: because we do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, no "Do Not Sell or Share" mechanism is required, but all other CCPA rights above apply.
StageOwn is not directed at children under the age of 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has submitted data through our platform, please contact contact@stageown.com and we will delete it promptly.
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be communicated via email to account holders and noted with an updated "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
